Author Morgan Housel refers to his favourite Wikipedia entry, “Ronald James Read was an American philanthropist, investor, janitor, and gas station attendant.” Ronald was a petrol attendant all his life and died at 92 when he finally made headlines as one of the top 4000 wealthiest Americans passing away in 2014 with a net worth of $8 million. He left $2 million to his stepchildren and $6 million to the local hospital and library – a true philanthropist and petrol attendant. Ronald was wealthy but not rich. We explore how being wealthy is actually the opposite of being rich and why the rich are role models and not the wealthy. What is it that pushes us and our clients so often to the “margins” of financial planning – assuming we’ll be happy with a relatively low income or working ourselves to exhaustion in the pursuit of being rich? Join us to explore real conversations about money with a glimpse at the underlying psychology and how this can enrich your value proposition.
